Postresidenz am See: an interview with hosts Christina and Pier Consani

Postresidenz am See Positions Itself as a Destination for Contemporary Luxury in Arosa, Offering Spacious Suites, Personalized Service and Seamless, Well-Connected Processes Without Losing Its Close Relationship with Guests. The concept is led by Christina and Pier Consani, who developed the property as career changers.

Since neither of you originally comes from the hotel industry, how long have you been working in hospitality?

We both originally come from the banking sector and shared the ambition to build our own business. The opportunity arose when Christina's father, Marcel Niederer, developed the building of Postresidenz am See. Rather than handing the project over to an external hotel management company, we decided to step into the hospitality industry ourselves. Everything had to be created from scratch. The first season was by far the most challenging, but today, after four seasons, we are proud of how the company has evolved and of what we have built.

What are the qualifications and responsibilities involved in becoming a host and managing a hotel?

As career changers, we benefited from a fresh perspective, viewing hospitality not only through the host's lens but, more importantly, through the guest's. Guests want to feel heard and genuinely valued. The principle that the guest comes first is more relevant today than ever.

What fascinates you about the hotel industry?

One of the greatest strengths of the hotel industry is the Immediacy of its rewards. You can see the results of your work right away when guests leave satisfied, knowing you have created real, tangible value for them.

What are the biggest challenges, on the one hand, if you're new to the industry and, on the other hand, in the industry in general?

As career changers, the biggest challenge was that we had no experience. In the hotel industry in general, high personnel costs are a major challenge.

What are your roles in the company and how do you divide them up?

Our roles have developed organically. We both always know what's coming up. We make strategic decisions together and share operational tasks. Pier is responsible for restaurant and hotel management and technical infrastructure, while Christina focuses on hotel, guest and staff management.

Postresidenz am See comprises 43 rooms and suites, all owned by individual investors and professionally managed by Postresidenz am See. How does this ownership and management model work in practice?

When the owners are not using their suites, they are rented to hotel guests, generating returns for the owners. From a guest's perspective, there is no visible difference between these suites and a traditional hotel. All units are uniformly furnished and provide the full range of hotel services, including housekeeping, room service, and spa access.

“AS CAREER CHANGERS, WE VIEWED MANY ASPECTS WITH FRESH EYES, NOT ONLY AS HOSTS, BUT ABOVE ALL FROM THE GUESTS' PERSPECTIVE..”

— Christina and Pier Consani

An exciting concept! How does an owner benefit from this?

Owners may use their suite, with full access to all luxury hotel amenities, for up to six weeks per year. These stays can be taken on a daily or weekly basis. Outside of this period, the suites are rented to hotel guests and generate a net return for the owner. During the off season, approximately four months each year, owners may use their suite without restriction.

What is your perspective on digitization, and how is it implemented in your hotel?

We consistently focus on digitization to simplify work processes and give employees more time for guests. Nevertheless, we would not implement every digital solution: a self-check-in counter would be unthinkable for our clients.

What should you definitely try at the airmail restaurant?

Our focus is clearly on charcoal grilled meat and we absolutely recommend our beef entrecote.

Describe postresidenz am See in three words:

Stylish, elegant, sophisticated
